Herodium is a cone-shaped hill, southeast of Bethlehem in the West Bank. It is believed that Herod the Great built a palace fortress and a small town at this site between 23 and 15 BCE. It is also believed that he was buried there. Many visitors visit the site in order to see the recently uncovered base of Herod's tomb. </div><div><br></div><div>This image exists as part of the Nativity Church collection within the Library of Congress project of the Planet Bethlehem Archive.</div>
