The image is a full-length portrait of a woman from Bethlehem, taken by the Italian photographer Tancrède Dumas. The woman is wearing the cone-shaped shatweh headdress unique to married Bethlehem women. Rows of coins and other valuable items were sown into shatwehs to display the family's wealth.
