Elias Hammad (85 years old from Bethlehem) interviewed by Haya Abu Ramees on 28 June 2006.

He discusses the following: military conscription which led some boys to leave for Madaba (in present day Jordan); Ottomans only cared about money; diseases and the locust year; due to the difficulties of World War I some people emigrated to Europe; British Mandate and how the local population initially viewed them favourably.
