This is a digital reproduction of an image held in the Library of Congress.

The photograph depicts a Nativity scene, in which the woman veiled is presented as the Virgin Mary, holding baby Jesus. The presence of the animals reinforces this idea, showing the photographs relation to the Nativity. The male on the far left supposedly represents Joseph, shown by his traditional attire, exemplified through the head cloth and head rope.

This image exists as part of the Natvity Scenes collection within the Library of Congress project of the Planet Bethlehem Archive.
