posted on 2019-05-31, 07:59 authored by Freja Howat-Maxted, Leila Sansour, Jacob NorrisJacob NorrisThis is a digital reproduction of an image held within the Library of Congress.
The image features the interior of a hosh (residential unit built around a central courtyard) with archways lining the courtyard. A woman is standing with her back to the photographer on the far side of the picture. The Library of Congress records provide the caption "Street in oldest Bethlehem... In thy dark street shineth", suggesting the image may have been staged to replicate the famous western hymn "Oh Little Town of Bethlehem".
This image is part of the Bethlehem Women collection within the Planet Bethlehem Archive.
