Notes
This work has made a significant contribution to the field of international education in both methodological and theoretical terms. It incorporates 12 ethnographic case studies carried out by teams of local researchers in two country contexts. The international collaboration combined with insights from local researchers investigating their own education systems have created new and groundbreaking approaches to empirical work in developing contexts. This research has also made a major contribution to key priorities in national and international policy. In theoretical terms it has contributed to shifting conceptualisations of equity, in linking gender and sexuality, and in highlighting the importance to educational practices, processes and outcomes in the production of gender identities. These understandings are highly significant in providing a balance to the dominant macro-perspective on issues of education in developing contexts.Full text available
