Capitalism, globalization and democracy: does social democracy have a role?
This paper is a survey of some of the recent literature on social democratic responses to globalisation together with comments on that literature and some thoughts about future directions for social democracy. It sets this against the background of the crisis of traditional social democracy and the transition to modernised forms; it discusses a third form, globalist social democracy. It defines globalisation and some of the issues it raises for social democracy.
