Evolution und Kreationismus im Schulunterricht aus Sicht Großbritanniens. Ist Evolution eine Sache der Akzeptanz oder des Glaubens?
chapterposted on 2023-06-07, 22:19 authored by James WilliamsJames Williams
The creation/evolution controversy in UK schools made headlines in the national press, on TV, and radio in 2002 and again in 2008, resulting in the resignation of the Director of Education at the Royal Society. Student attitude surveys eliciting views toward science and religion are briefly examined and the nature of misconceptions in science discussed. The idea of creationism as a worldview rather than misconception is also examined and rejected. Concern is expressed at how the teaching of evolution through standard textbooks may not deliver a persuasive case for evolutionary theory due to dated materials. A proposal is made to solve the issue of how teachers should address student challenges to evolution in science classes by referring to the acceptance of science rather than belief in science.
