This book chapter explores the origins and the use of the term "Latsploitation" to describe exploitation cinemas made in Latin America. It reflects on the new intervention in the field represented by the publication of an anthology of the same name, co-edited by the author and Victoria Ruetalo in 2009 and how the term has since entered into common academic parlance. The chapter explores the main vectors of "Latsploitation" as well as new publications in the field. It finishes with an account of the emergent areas of study within Latin American exploitation cinemas and the issues to be tackled.
