This entry discusses the relationship between peace and socio-economic rights. This relationship has been a concern of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary scholarship in peacebuilding, transitional justice, human rights and related areas. Drawing on scholarship in these areas, the entry discusses the idea of socio-economic rights violations as a cause of conflict and the idea of the realisation of socio-economic rights as contributing to peace. The entry also explores the link between socio-economic rights and the concepts of positive peace, negative peace and structural violence, identifying key gaps and emerging directions in research, including in relation to the notion of transformative justice.
