The object of attention: same-sex sexualities in small town India and the contemporary sexual subject
The chapter explores sexual subjectivity in regional towns in West Bengal, and questions the salience of 'sexuality' as a subject category for the experience of people who practice same-sex sexualities in these contexts. Based on an existential view of ethnographic research the chapters raises wider issues concerning the relationship between day-to-day gendered and sexual 'being-in the-world' versus representations of sexuality in prevailing research trends
