The photograph features Mario Barbagallo (right), son of Josephine Barbagallo (nee Giries Kattan) playing tennis with another internee in an internment camp in El Obeid, Sudan. All Italian civilian nationals living and working in Sudan were interred in camps such as this one until the end of the Second World War. Rules in the camp were quite relaxed and some recreational activities such as tennis were permitted.
