A Mother Should Be Loved: the musical score
An essay describing the aims and processes of composition involved in creating a new score to Yasujiro Ozu's silent film 'A Mother Should Be Loved'. The essay makes a link between cyclic approaches discoverable in Ozu's visual language, and the possibility of developing similarly nuanced, subtle, yet coherent musical patterns over the time-span of a complete film score.
