A basic model used in population genetics is motivated and it is shown how the resulting theory has a mathematical complexity equivalent to that of non-relativistic one-particle quantum mechanics. For the model in question, it is shown that a Schrödinger-like equation underlies the dynamics with the main difference that the time derivative term lacks a coefficient of i = ¡ -1. A number of special cases of the model are analysed, including one that makes connections with a topic of current interest in theoretical physics.
