In March 2023 ChatGPT attempted the Solicitors Qualifying Exam (the SQE), which is the national qualifying exam to become a solicitor in the UK. It achieved a score of 50% (45 out of 90), slightly below the average pass mark of around 57%. However, following the launch of GPT-4 in March 2023, the same 90 questions were submitted, and it achieved 78% (70/90) . In the same month GPT-4 also passed the Bar Exam in the United States . Does this mean that in the future we will no longer need lawyers, as all our legal issues can be resolved by the polite, and patient, large language model known to us all as Chat GPT?
