CAIMAN: An online algorithm repository for Cancer Image Analysis
journal contribution
posted on 2023-06-07, 19:18 authored by Constantino Reyes Aldasoro, Michael K Griffiths, Deniz Savas, Gillian TozerCAIMAN (CAncer IMage ANalysis: http://www.caiman.org.uk) is an online algorithm repository that provides specifically designed algorithms to analyse the images produced by experiments relevant to Cancer Research and Life Sciences, especially vascular biology. CAIMAN is accessed through a user-friendly website where researchers can upload their images and the results are returned by email. CAIMAN does not intend to replace more sophisticated software solutions such as ImageJ, Matlab, or commercial packages, but it will provide a first stop where any researcher can upload images and can obtain quantitative results without having to do any programming at all.

Notes
CAIMAN is the culmination of a strong interdisciplinary partnership between computer science, image analysis and oncology to establish a website where Life scientists can upload images that are processed through specialised algorithms. This website offers quantitative image analysis, free of charge in an open policy to any researcher interested in the analysis of their images. I am the main author and leader of the group that developed CAIMAN. In addition to the image analysis algorithms, I constructed the website, the access to the user database, use of "captchas" for registration of new users and recording the website utilisation statistics. I am currently the webmaster of the site. More than 1,700 images have been processed by users in several countries since the website was launched.Full text available
