This explores the author's approach to developing work on the surrealist photographer, Claude Cahun (1894-1954), whose extraordinary life and work has become a particular interest. The research on this artist allows for various outcomes: a film as well as a critical article and written biography. The intention is for all these pieces to reflexively engage with the meaning of the term, 'biography'. The article is concerned with describing the process of writing the script for the film, and the ways in which the author sees the project as constituting practice-based research.
