Micro-generation for 2050: emissions performances of micro-generation sources during operation

This study investigates the emissions performances of some cases of domestic microgeneration during operation. By comparison to the conventional generation options, savings of 10–45% were found, depending on the energy mix. Waste heat recovery by the micro-CHP was found to be the largest carbon saver in this study, along with the zero-carbon wind and photovoltaic micro-generation. Some carbon savings were also attained by avoiding energy losses throughout the transmission and distribution system.
