Renewable energy: economically sound, politically difficult
If the national electricity market were to function properly by aligning electricity costs with prices, renewable energy technologies would offer the cheapest forms of power generation. The fundamental question is whether we want an electricity market that manipulates the presence of externalities to its advantage, or one that attempts to fully internalize them.
