The sociologist as seen by Zygmunt Bauman: from postmodernity to liquid modernity
journal contribution
posted on 2023-06-08, 10:25 authored by Matt DawsonThe work of Zygmunt Bauman over the last two decades has moved from considering postmodernity to liquid modernity. Despite the many differences between these perspectives there are many similarities. Both perspectives look at themselves in relation to modernity and ‘modernisation’. However there are differences in the way Bauman approaches society within both. Most importantly it is possible to see the evolution of Bauman’s thought over this process as also being a discussion of the role of both the intellectual and sociology over this period. The question of what the sociologist should be trying to accomplish is never far from Bauman’s thoughts.
