The article demonstrates that both transactions costs and the apparently opposed evolutionary ( knowledge-based) approaches are relevant to defining clusters, and that proper empirical analysis of cluster evolution requires both perspectives to be considered. Spatial co-location is not enough. Dr Iammarino contributed 50% of the paper.Full text available
