Vies d’analogia i d’explicació en l’evolució del pretèrit feble de la conjugació-e romànica

In Latin the perfectum paradigms (Castilian ‘pretérito y tiempos afines’ = PyTA) of the 2nd and 3rd (e-)conjugations had ‘weak’ (arrhizotonic) forms only in the second person past perfective (2.pst.prf) and in the pluperfect subjunctive (plup.sbjv). The Romance languages have evolved weak forms for all PyTA categories for most verbs, and even the remaining strong preterites have weak forms everywhere except in the 1/3sg.pst.pfv. In the proposed reconstruction of the Proto-Romance PyTA paradigm of vendidi ‘sold’ and similar types, the divergent and surprising distribution of reflexes of */e/ and */E/ in Romance is attributed to three processes: (i) reformation influenced by the vocalism of the uncompounded root DEDI ‘gave’, (ii) haplology eliminating the unstressed syllable in a /dVdV/ sequence, (iii) simplification of stress distribution within the PyTA paradigm. These three processes may apply in different chronological orders, giving rise to the different distribution of outcomes
