Notes
As turbine inlet temperatures are pushed higher for fuel efficiency, the aerodynamic and heat transfer characteristics of turbine design must be modeled/studied in tandem. This paper demonstrates a rigorous methodology to account for heat transfer in the calculation of turbine aerodynamic efficiency. Since publishing, the technique has been used in Rolls-Royce in-house methodology by Dr. John Northall (john.northall@rolls-royce.com) and utilized for work on the TATEF II FP6 European Union collaborative project. The method is likely to be adopted at the Von Karman Institute (Dr G Paniagua - paniagua@vki.ac.be). Selected by conference chair for ASME Journal of Turbomachinery.
