Farhat Family

Posted on 2019-06-03 - 11:35 authored by Freja Howat-Maxted
This collection consists of digitised photographs donated to the Planet Bethlehem Archive by Kathy Sa'ade Kenny.

The images are photographs of the Farhat family - the family of Katrina Sa'ade's second husband. Katrina Sa'ade's life is the focus of this wider project within the Planet Bethlehem Archive. In 1921 she married Suleiman Jiryes Farhat in Long Beach California. Suleiman's family was from Ramallah, Palestine. They were farmers, raising mainly olives, grapes, figs and other fruit on their land around Ramallah. When Katrina returned to Palestine in 1933 to live with her in-laws in Ramallah, she clashed severely with the Farhat family, eventually ending in her divorce from Suleiman and return to the US. These clashes are detailed in the Katrina Sa'ade Letters collection, also within the Katrina Sa'ade project.

This collection is part of the Katrina Sa'ade project within the Planet Bethlehem Archive (click on the Related Project link below to explore the wider project).
