In January 2023, the University of Sussex, in collaboration with the Botanical Survey of India and the John Innes Centre, launched an exhibition in the Industrial Section of the Indian Museum in Kolkata, titled "Science, Humanism and the Making of Modern India", curated by Michael Rayner and Vinita Damodaran. This was part of the "Science and the Colonies: Hidden Networks of Botanical Science, Ecology and Eugenics at the End of Empire" project, funded by UKRI.

In addition to this, anthropologist Sangeeta Das Gupta was approached to curate a sister exhibition "The Oraons of Chhotanagpur: Revisiting and Challenging Colonial Representations".

As part of this project, film-maker and academic Shibaji Bose was commissioned to produce three short films documenting this exhibition launch, included on this record alongside a brief preview film. These films record walkthroughs of these two exhibitions by their curators and a series of interviews of some of the visitors to the exhibition launch.
